SPES: when a construction company in Mallorca is born from hope

“Spes”, which in Greek means hope, was not a name chosen at random. It was — and still is — a way of understanding construction: trusting that every project can be done better, with greater respect, more rigour and a closer relationship with the client.

In the late 1990s, SPES was born as a small engineering firm. A compact team, long working days and a single guiding idea: to provide solid technical solutions without ever losing the human connection with the client.

With the arrival of new partners — each with extensive experience in the construction sector — the company took the step towards becoming a full construction firm, bringing together the strengths of the three partners who make up SPES today. We began with our first project in the Balearic Islands and immediately felt the warm welcome of the islands.

Behind every project, the same thing drove us: hope.
Hope of doing things well, delivering on time, and earning the client’s trust to work with us again.

In 2011 we arrived in Mallorca with a project that would mark a before and after: a unique, demanding commission in the heart of the city, one that forced us to understand very quickly what it means to build on an island.

Island logistics, extremely tight deadlines, respect for the urban environment, coordination with public authorities and with neighbours… Mallorca taught us that being a construction company here is not just about building walls; it is about integrating into the territory and its rhythm.

From that moment on, Mallorca stopped being an occasional destination and became a strategic commitment. Today, when we speak of SPES as a construction company in Mallorca, we speak of roots, of a local team and of a long‑term relationship with the islands’ tourism and hospitality sector.

Over time, the trust of internationally renowned hotel groups led us towards a field where we feel particularly at home: hotel refurbishment in the Balearic Islands.

Working in operating hotels — with immovable opening dates, phased works, noise control and the safety of guests and staff — requires far more than coordinating trades:

• It demands almost surgical planning.
• It requires absolute respect for the hotel’s operation.
• It often means working “when others rest”: nights, low season, very specific time windows.

In every refurbishment, hope takes on a new form: that of a hotel able to reopen better prepared, offering greater value to its guests, meeting deadlines and staying within budget. It is not only about finishing a project; it is about not losing a season.

The journey of SPES has not been limited to Spain.

The White House project led us to open a branch in the United Kingdom and to work within different construction cultures, regulations and expectations.

That international experience pushed us to raise our standards:
better planning, tighter quality control, greater traceability in every decision. And all of that has returned with us to each project in Valladolid, Madrid or the Balearics.

Today, when we begin a new project, we carry with us everything learned at home and abroad: the closeness of a local company and the discipline of those who have worked in highly regulated, competitive environments.

Today, SPES is a construction company with offices in Valladolid, Palma de Mallorca, Madrid and the United Kingdom. But beyond the facts and figures, we remain true to what gave us our name:
